Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data the Escapango mobile app and the website https://app.escapango.eu process, why, and what rights you have. Controller: Nagy Robert (sole trader, Hungary), [SZÉKHELY CÍME], tax number [ADÓSZÁM], e-mail: support@escapango.eu.

1. What we process and why

  • Account (optional): e-mail address, name if you give one, and your password stored only as a secure hash. Purpose: signing in and keeping your favourites and premium status across devices. Legal basis: contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Favourites: the list of places you saved, kept with your account. Legal basis: contract.
  • Premium status: which plan you have and until when. Payments are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play — we never see your card details. Legal basis: contract.
  • AI travel assistant and AI road-trip planner: the questions you type, the travel preferences you set (who you travel with, children’s age group) and the place you are looking at are sent to our server and to our AI provider to produce the answer. We do not store your conversations; we only count how many questions you asked per day (for the free limit). Do not type sensitive personal data into the assistant. Legal basis: contract.
  • Location: only when you allow it, for “near me” features and turn-by-turn navigation. Your position is sent to our server and to our map provider only to calculate the route or nearby points, and is not stored. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw in the phone settings at any time.
  • Searches for cities or regions: the search text is sent to our map provider to find the place. Legal basis: legitimate interest in providing the search (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Technical data: when the app talks to our server, the server receives your IP address and request details; these server logs are used for security and troubleshooting and are kept for a limited time. Legal basis: legitimate interest.

2. Data kept only on your phone

Your settings (language, travel preferences), road trips and their dates, reminders, cached weather and downloaded language packs are stored on your device and are not sent to us. Trip reminders are local notifications scheduled by your phone. Deleting the app removes these data.

3. Service providers (processors and recipients)

  • Hosting of our server and website: NameHero, LLC, 690 S Highway 89, Suite 200, Jackson, Wyoming 83002, USA, contact@namehero.com. The server may be located outside the EU; such transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Anthropic PBC (USA) — AI model that answers the travel assistant and plans road trips. Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • HERE Technologies (Netherlands) — routes, navigation, place and city search, points of interest.
  • Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) — weather forecast; receives only the coordinates of the place, from our server.
  • OpenStreetMap Foundation tile servers, cdnjs (Cloudflare) and jsDelivr — map images and the map library are loaded directly by your phone, so these services see your IP address.
  • Apple and Google — app distribution, in-app purchases and push-notification infrastructure, under their own privacy policies.
  • Ticket and activity offers lead to partner websites (Tiqets, via Travelpayouts affiliate links). If you open such a link, that website’s own privacy policy applies.

We do not sell your personal data and do not use it for advertising. The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

4. How long we keep data

Account data, favourites and premium status are kept until you delete your account. Daily AI question counters are deleted together with the account. Server logs are kept for a limited time, typically no longer than 30 days, unless needed to investigate a security incident.

5. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile → Delete account. This immediately and permanently deletes your account, favourites and usage counters from our server. You can also ask for deletion by e-mail at support@escapango.eu. An active App Store or Google Play subscription has to be cancelled in the store separately.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Write to support@escapango.eu; we answer within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority — in Hungary: Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (NAIH), 1055 Budapest, Falk Miksa utca 9–11, www.naih.hu — or with the authority of the EU country where you live.

7. Children

Escapango is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from them; parents can plan trips with the app for the family.

8. Website and cookies

The website https://app.escapango.eu uses only cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work and does not use tracking or advertising cookies. If this changes, we will ask for your consent first.

9. Changes

We may update this policy when the app changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; we will tell you in the app about important changes.
